This page is a collection of sound recordings of cooking activities. Some are easily recognisable, others verge on the abstract. Sound is an important element in cooking as one can often derive cues relating to heat, moisture and state of cooking through careful listening. Most cooks have a sense of familiarity with archetypal food sounds such as chopping, slicing, frying, boiling etc… The kitchen’s soundscapes is often a complex interplay of all these.
